I would like to start by wishing everyone 'Happy Holidays'. Now let's talk about one of the main reasons everyone loves the Holidays---FOOD!!! With all the caramel popcorns, candy canes, pies, cookies and let's not forget about our favorite sugary holiday drinks, it is that much more important to maintain good dental hygiene.
It is very easy for us to forget about our dental limitations whenever the holidays arrive. All that sugar can harm your teeth by developing plaque, harmful bacteria, and eventually tooth decay.
Dr. Greg Herzberg, Littleton Dentist, wants to remind everyone to keep up with their basic home dental care. Which means, you need to at least floss and brush twice a day.
There is never a good time to have a dental emergency but having a toothache right on a holiday is one of the worst times since most dental offices are closed for the holidays. Here is one tip from Dr. Greg Herberg, if you notice a slight pain during or after you bite down on hard food, call the dentist and have it checked right away before it becomes a larger problem.
Since there are a lot of wrapped gifts during Christmas, many people use their teeth as a tool for unwrapping present. Never use your teeth as a tool because this can be very harmful. You can break the outside protective layer of your tooth called the enamel, which may cause tooth sensitivity or even worse, damage to the nerve.
Hope this helps everyone enjoy a dental pain-free holiday this year.
